Frequently asked questions
Does Metadata Cleaner upload my image?
No. The image is decoded and re-exported locally in your browser. Cobalt Tools does not upload or store the selected image.
What metadata can this remove?
Re-encoding through the browser normally removes embedded EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, C2PA content credentials, PNG text chunks and AI generator tags that are stored as file metadata.
Can it remove invisible watermarks?
No. Invisible watermarks or signals baked directly into pixels are not metadata. This tool cannot guarantee how an AI detector or social platform will classify an image.
Why does the tool re-export the image?
The browser draws the image pixels to a fresh canvas and exports a new file. That fresh file contains the pixels, but not the original metadata blocks.
